Translating Science into Industry Sector Action
The European Climate Foundation tasked us with creating a suite of reports to distil the IPCC’s extensive Fifth Assessment into sector-specific summaries for business leaders. Each of the 11 reports covered a key industry, from agriculture to tourism, requiring us to turn over 7,000 pages of dense, technical information into clear, actionable content.
To ensure relevance and impact, we collaborated closely with ECF, partner organisations and scientists to identify key messages. A strong, accessible layout, infographic-led design, and sector-specific statistics helped audiences grasp the urgency of climate change and understand their unique role in tackling it.

Communicating to Business and Beyond
Each report had to work independently and as part of a series – visually striking and unified, yet tailored to its audience. Photography was avoided by design, so we created sector-specific illustrations within a consistent visual language. Colour coding reinforced the unique identity of each report while linking them together.
Clarity was critical. We structured layouts to support readability, highlighting stats, action points, and infographics. A fold-out centre spread showcased key takeaways, acting as a standalone poster for events and offices. The result was an instantly recognisable set of resources that made complex science digestible and inspiring.

Designing for Global Impact
Once published, the impact was immediate. The reports were featured in over 170 articles and reposted on more than 120 websites in just three months. They reached a wide range of sectors and stakeholders, including major brands like Philips, Asda, and Sainsbury’s, and sparked global discussion.
Translations into German, French, and Spanish enabled use at major climate events including COP20 and COP21. The reports also inspired webinars, ministerial presentations, and new initiatives across industries. With strong design, accessible language and strategic collaboration, these reports helped push climate science into boardrooms worldwide.
